About Heidi Voth

Hey, I’m Heidi! I’m a composer from Vancouver Island, Canada.

I’m not entirely sure when my love of film scores began, though I recall being in high school when, in particular, Howard Shore’s music for The Lord of the Rings caught my attention. Within the context of one of my favourite stories, I was struck by the powerful way in which instrumental music could convey so much emotion, speaking volumes where words alone would fall short.

It wasn’t until later that it occurred to me to try writing instrumental music of my own — and I realized how much I loved it. After finishing the first year of a physics degree, I turned from the pursuit of a career in science to instead earn a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from Biola University, in La Mirada, California.

During my time at Biola, I took advantage of opportunities to compose scores for student films and concert music for a range of performances, including percussion ensemble, choir, and orchestra. I enjoyed performing in different ensembles as a flutist, violist, and percussionist. And my love for conducting led me to pursue additional studies and gain practical experience as a student conductor.

When I’m not making music, I enjoy hiking, watching movies, and learning to play new instruments. Didgeridoo currently remains a work in progress.
